“The Tropical Froggery Innisfail Inc. is a not-for-profit community association formed to facilitate the development of a venture to promote Eco Tourism, Education and Scientific Research specifically to the conservation of local tropical wetland frogs.”
Innisfail located within the Wet Tropics Cassowary Coast Region, half of which is World Heritage or National Park lands, is geographically situated approximately halfway between the cities of Cairns and Townsville.
The Tropical Froggery located within Innisfails Warrina Lakes Complex will be a unique eco-tourism venture seeking to satisfy market demand for our continually growing visitor numbers.
The Wet Tropics has over 51 species of frogs and the highest diversity of frogs in Australia. There are 21 Wet Tropics species that are found nowhere else in the world.
There has been much scientific evidence to suggest that the health and well being of our amphibian population (particularly the native frog population), is the barometer of our general environmental health.
The Project seeks to fulfil three aims:
- A unique and exciting tourist destination
- An educational facility covering environmental issues and
- A high quality, professional research facility in conjunction with a Higher Education institute
To date the steering committee has worked tirelessly to bring the concept of a Tropical Froggery to the attention of Federal, State and Local government authorities and discussions have been opened with James Cook University.
